Dr. Shyam Kumar Masakapalli Joined IIT Mandi in the School of Basic Sciences

Dr. Shyam Kumar Masakapalli received his PhD in Plant Sciences from the University of Oxford (under Prof. George Ratcliffe and Dr. Nick Kruger), UK in early 2012. Followed by this he worked as a Postdoctoral fellow (2011-2015) first at the University of Oxford (with Dr. Lee Sweetlove) and later at the University of Bath, UK (with Prof. David Leak and Prof. Michael Danson). Prior to PhD, he did his M.Tech (2007) in Applied Botany (now Agri. Biotechnology) from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He was awarded highly competitive scholarships such as Clarendon Scholarship, Overseas Research Student (ORS) Award and Krishna Pathak Scholarship to conduct PhD at the University of Oxford. He has presented several research talks in international conferences and institutes. The focus of his research falls in the interdisciplinary areas of Metabolic Systems Biology and fluxomics of plants and microbes to map cellular metabolism with scope for biotechnological and agricultural applications. His hobbies include watching sports, athletics and reading.
