Two New Faculty Joined IIT Mandi

Dr. Niraj Sinha joined IIT Mandi as Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering in Dec 2011. He did his Ph.D. with Prof. John T.W. Yeow from the University of Waterloo, M.Sc. with Prof. Chris W.J. Zhang from the University of Saskatchewan, and B.Tech. from National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology, Ranchi. Prior to joining IIT Mandi, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the research group of Prof. K. Hamad-Schifferli at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA (2008-2010) and as a research associate in the group of Dr. David Jaffray at STTARR Innovation Centre of Princess Margaret Hospital, University Health Network, Toronto, Canada (2010-2011).
His research interests are in the areas of manufacturing, materials science, nanotechnology and bioengineering. Niraj was born in Ranchi and spent his life there before moving to Canada. He is an avid news reader and is very up-to-date on all current affairs.

Dr. Shail Shankar joined in the School of Humanities (Psychology). He did his PhD from CAS Department of Psychology, University of Allahabad. He worked with Long term patients who come to die in Varanasi and has looked upon the relation between religion and health. Prior to joining IIT Mandi, he was with the Central University of Bihar. He was Post-Doctoral Fellow in an Indo British collaborative project (between University of St. Andrews, University of Dundee and University of Allahabad) on “Collective Participation and Social Identification”. He has also been invited by the University of Dundee, Dundee, Scotland and University of St. Andrews, Scotland to discuss and present on “Experiences of Collective Participation.” His research interests include Social Identity, Crowd Dynamics and Health and Well Being.
