About Instrument and its applications

The Quantum Design MPMS3 uses a Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) Magnetometer to monitor very small changes in magnetic flux and so discover the magnetic properties of samples. It is configured to study the magnetic properties of small experimental samples over a broad range of temperatures and magnetic fields. Extremely sensitive magnetic measurements are performed with superconducting pickup coils and SQUID.MPMS3 featured DC analysis and Vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). Applications of the SQUID magnetometer include measurements of small quantities of paramagnetic ions, characterization of all kinds of magnetic materials, and quantitative determination of the number of unpaired electrons in samples. The MPMS3 provides solutions for a unique class of sensitive magnetic measurements in key areas such as high-temperature superconductivity, biochemistry, and magnetic recording media. The modular MPMS3 design integrates a SQUID detection system, a precision temperature control unit residing in the bore of a high-field superconducting magnet, and a sophisticated computer operating system. Proprietary software, running within an intuitive MS Windows environment, allows full automation of all system parameters while controlling measurements, making data collection and analysis quick and easy.
