Celebrations @ IIT Mandi
It's time to celebrate!Celebrations are an integral part of the students' life. At IIT Mandi, we need no reason to celebrate. Be it a festival or someone's achievement or be it end of a dreadful week, we see to it that we celebrate. When it comes to National festivals like Independence Day and Republic Day we celebrate them with great fervour and patriotism.
Being an integral part of the society, events concerned with society like women's day are celebrated formally with great enthusiasm. Not to exaggerate, there are the so-called mini-celebrations for the students in the form of Chapos (treats given by the seniors) and get-togethers. You can dance yourself out on DJ nights, the most happening nights in the campus.
Student Activities The students of IIT Mandi organise various extracurricular activities to break the monotony of routine activities. As an initial attempt, two major events - a Quiz and a Treasure Hunt were organised.
Quiz:
The Quiz Club is in the initial foundation stage and promises a bright future with active members taking the initiative of shaping this into one of the major clubs. The feeling of the heart throbbing and the brain scrutinising the remote corners of the cerebrum to crack the tough nut is simply amazing and the club provided this opportunity by conducting a quiz during the odd semester of the current year i.e. 2011. The grand finale was a cherishing experience for everyone: the teams, the audience and the student organisers. The questions tested the knowledge of current affairs, general knowledge, logic and reasoning etc. With the great response from the students, the club plans to increase the frequency of quizzes and also venture into other interesting quizzing patterns.Treasure Hunt:
A treasure hunt is one of the many different types of games which can have one or more players, who try to find hidden articles, locations or places by using a series of clues. A treasure hunt was held a week before the final end semester exams in November aimed at refreshing and rejuvenating the minds of students cramped with formulae and theories. The game received a red carpet welcome with many participating teams vying with each other to find the hidden jackpot. The whole institute was filled with students scratching and scrambling every nook and corner in search of the next golden clue. The tricky clues were an acid test for the brain's interpreting and thinking power and needed the most uncommon element of human brain- The Common Sense. The organisers plan to conduct many such recreational games in the future.Foundation Day
The Institute completed two years of its existence on the 24th of February, 2011. Various programs and events were held on the 25th of February to celebrate the second foundation day. The entire institute gathered together in the multipurpose hall where the prize distribution ceremony was held, awarding the faculty members for their achievements in various fields. Thereafter, everyone moved to the Main Campus in Kamand to celebrate the auspicious occasion. Performances like drama, singing and bhangra were organised by the first year students, all under the gracious presence of our chief guest Prof. Dr. Ing. Wolfram Ressel, Rector of Stuttgart University, along with our Director Prof. T A Gonsalves. The Institute was also graced by the presence of Dr. David Phillips, Senior Advisor to Rector and Prof. Subrata Ray from the mentor institute, IIT Roorkee.A Midsummer Night's Dream
A Midsummer Night's Dream is a comedy that was written by William Shakespeare.
Once Upon A Dream In A MIDSUMMER NIGHT
The lovers met their true love at night
And the Duke wooed his good Duchess
The Fairy King and the Queen
Gave up their fight and the forest bloomed
While they reconciled, and all forgave
The bungling country actors.
It is believed to have been written between 1590 to 1596. It portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta. These include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors, who are manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. The play is one of Shakespeare's most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world.
The play was performed by students in their 3rd semester as part of their elective curriculum HS-201: Introduction To Drama: Theory and Practice. The students combined their imagination and creativity, to enact its Indian version with the actors dressed up in typical Indian costumes. The stage setup, the costumes, the make-up, the lights, the interlude music to welcome the fairies etc. supported the main play well and made it a big hit among the onlookers. The play was well received by the audience and even the press covered it. The new style of teaching was appreciated by one and all.
