Personal Experiences - Dhruv Parmar

The day I got a seat in IIT Mandi , I was in a mixed bag of feelings. On one side I was very excited to join a new institution but on the other side I was nervous too because many close relatives and friends were doubtful about my decision. But, today I can proudly say that I took the right step as I have spent one of the best years of my life as a Mandiite. Coming from a metropolitan city New Delhi I knew I would have to compromise on some things but soon I blended well with my classmates.

The journey began on 22nd July at IIT Roorkee. After the registration we were shown our own Mandi Cell. It had a computer lab and a library which we utilized a lot for our academics and gaming ? ..... Gradually I made new friends and went on several trips to places nearby Roorkee like Dehradun and Rishikesh.. The hostel life was simply awesome. Gaming night-outs , canteen trips, fun-filled group studying and watching movies together. We played football in the lawns and cards on the hostel terrace. At IIT R we were given full opportunity to exploit our co-curricular skills. There were auditions for every section. I myself joined the gaming section and the football team. The seniors here (at IIT R) were quite friendly(no ragging ?) and we enjoyed a lot of 'chapos' (treats) from them. Besides these I also learned playing guitar and little bit of table tennis.

Now talking about studies... Initially there was a lot of pressure of Practicals, Tutorials and especially Attendance but soon we adjusted to the system. I got a CG of 8.0 in my first semester (thanks to the late night studying at the library). At IIT R we had Fest's like Thomso(Cultural Fest) and Cognizance(Technical Fest) and we had great time watching bands like Jal and Benea Reach perform and events like Battle Of Bands and Vogue. I even got to see Chaos (one of the biggest gaming contest in India).

In our second semester at IIT R our Director was appointed and we had a trip to Mandi. The trip was very exciting. We were shown the Interim Campus and the site of the original campus. I was mesmerized to see the beauty of Mandi and Kamand town. Our main campus site was completely surrounded by mountains which was a picturesque scene. We also had a cultural program in Mandi.

I am also a member of the Web Development Team of IIT Mandi. We worked really hard to make this website. It took us 1 month of hard-work to come up with our website. Towards the end of the second semester we the students of IIT Mandi organized a 3 day fest called Naissance which was a big hit. I myself performed on the Cultural Night. I would consider myself really lucky being a part of IIT Mandi and my 1st year with my fellow classmates has been one of the most special year of my life and I am looking forward to my 2nd year in Mandi town as it very rare to find a place such beautiful... Loads of love to all my friends at IIT Mandi ( WE ROCK !!!! )
