About Instrument and its applications

The facility is a single characterization unit to measure electrical, and thermal

transport properties from 400 K to 1.8 K temperature range in the presence

and absence of a magnetic field (~14 Tesla). This system is a modular system

having a cryostat and cryomagnetic for temperature variation and

magnetic field, respectively. Different modules of measurements can be

exchanged as per the requirement and the system can be configured easily for

various measurements. The system does not require liquid cryogen (liquid

He) and a closed cycle system can be used to attain the low-temperature

control and to conduct cool with a free superconducting magnet. Helium

gas requirement has reduced considerably due to pulsed tube technology.

The following measurements can be performed regularly using the facility:

1) Electrical transport characteristics: Four probe resistivity (DC and AC)

measurements, current-voltage measurements, magnetoresistance

measurements.

2) Thermal transport: Thermal conductivity, Seebeck coefficient, Nernst

coefficient and thermoelectric figure of merit

3) Heat Capacity

Applications:

The application areas of AAS are very wide including environmental analysis, medicines, metal alloys, etc.
